Why I’m writing

Hello! I’m Ian – pleased to meet you.

In a desperate final effort to feel like I’m actually using my degree, I write here on how ideas from the history of political thought can help to make sense of contemporary debates.

I also write about music, football and popular culture, in a vainglorious attempt to give my hobbies a veneer of respectability.

Brevity is the soul of wit, as my overlong blog entries prove.

Thanks for popping in!

  1. I started following a while back Ian. Then my brain went to sleep or something. But – thanks to Underworld – I’m back and very glad about that. Your post on Rawls for instance has just helped me with this f’n awful dissertation proposal I’m trying to write… just how coincidental is that! Anyway… very much agreeing with your posts on Indyref; liking your politics and your music – and though I’ve never really got that football ‘thing’, you write well about it… You’re making very good use of your degree as far as I can see – and you’ve a lovely fluid writing style too..What’s not to like. 🙂

  2. I’ll need the luck! It’s about mediation. After that I get increasingly inarticulate. In fact I am currently pondering the following title: ‘Mediation: Why the Fuck Would You Bother?’ But I think I better not. Well. Maybe I could delete the expletive…
